The James A. Rawley Graduate Conference in the Humanities is an interdisciplinary annual event that affords graduate students and advanced undergraduates the opportunity to present their research in an environment modeled on professional conferences. The theme for the April 12, 2008 meeting at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, is: “Imagining Communities: People, Places, Meanings;” Dr. Joan Jensen, New Mexico State University, will deliver the keynote address.
Whether tied by geographical, temporal, intellectual, literary, or religious boundaries, communities are based in shared experiences or philosophies. As expressions of human communication, their creation (or dissolution), beliefs, and activities provide humanities scholars with myriad opportunities for research and analysis. From individual contributions to group goals, exploring communities opens up new perspectives to the past, present, and future.
Traditional paper and panel proposals are welcome, but round-tables, multi-media presentations, exhibition plans, digital projects, and other creative expressions of humanities scholarship are also encouraged.
Individuals should send a 250 word abstract and a copy of curriculum vitae to hgsa@unlnotes.unl.edu. Panel submissions should include vitas and abstracts for each participant (please designate a contact person.) The deadline for submissions is January 15, 2008.
