The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the organization's presence in Texas at the AAUW-Texas Biennial Convention to be held in Dallas in April 2008.
The AAUW-Texas Biennial Convention Program Committee invites proposals from graduate students in Texas and throughout the Southwest for a research poster exhibition to be held during the Convention. Contributions in any field of interest to AAUW (www.aauw.org) are welcome. The Research Review Committee will be particularly interested in proposals that reflect women's cultural diversity; that explore women's historical experiences in Texas, including obstacles and achievements; that depict issue-oriented activism by women in Texas and its neighbors; that present data or studies on gender equity issues, including but not limited to those arising in publicly funded programs and at educational institutions; and that discuss educational initiatives and programs for women at all levels, including those in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.
The deadline for submission of abstracts is February 22, 2008.
Abstracts must not exceed 300 words, and must be presented to the Research Review Committee as Microsoft Word documents. Abstracts must present text only; additional graphic and explanatory information will be permitted during the poster exhibition session in Dallas.
Multiple-author proposals are encouraged, but all first authors must be graduate students currently enrolled in a higher education institution. At least one author is expected to register and attend the AAUW-Texas Biennial Convention and to be present during the poster session to discuss the poster's content with attendees. Grants to meet travel and conference expenses are not available at this time.
Abstract submissions must contain all of the following: the title of the proposal; the names, positions, and institutional affiliations of all authors; a physical mailing address to which conference materials can be sent; a contact telephone number for the first author; a single email address to be used by the Research Review Committee for correspondence with the first author; and the text of the proposal.
Submissions must be made as MS Word attachments to an email message with "AAUW—Poster Proposal" in the subject line, and the email message must be sent to email@example.com by February 22, 2008. Submissions received after this date will not be considered. Submissions will not be individually acknowledged. The first author of successful proposals will be informed by email by March 7, 2008. For more information on submissions, contact Caitlin M. Hopson, Administrative Assistant, Women's Studies Program-MS2009, Texas Tech University, Lubbock TX 79409-2009, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 806.742-4335.
