Panel: "Expressions of a Different Understanding"
Place: Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association National Conference March 2008, San Francisco, California, Literature and Politics sessions.
Seeking panel papers on experimental modernism as related to ethnic, multiethnic, or multiracial literature and culture. This panel seeks papers related to the intersections of race and gender in the modern and contemporary literature of multiethnic and multiracial America. Specifically, how the racialized self is illustrated in literature and culture as a form of expressionism that may coincide or conflict with modernist experimentalism; and particularly how ethnic communities struggle for a unique self representation as sometimes a "different understanding" beyond the conventions of style and form. The multiracial narrative is of particular interest for this panel along with other ethnic narratives. The Conference will take place in March 2008, in San Francisco, California.
