Peer English (ISSN 1746-5621), a refereed annual journal produced jointly by the Department of English at the University of Leicester and the English Association, requests submissions for inclusion in its third issue to be published Autumn 2008.
The focus of the journal is on high-quality work by early career researchers. We especially welcome submissions, therefore, from lecturers, assistant or associate professors, senior graduate students, or post-doctoral researchers or teachers.
Our approach is open and inclusive, and definition of ‘literary studies’ is broad. In the first two issues we have published essays on a range of topics and authors including war writing, Renaissance university drama, twentieth-century poetry, American fiction and Victorian domestic manuals. As this suggests, we encourage work that considers any literary period. We also welcome essays that deploy a range of critical strategies, from traditional close readings, to historically-grounded scholarship and cutting-edge theoretical or interdisciplinary analyses.
We now invite: scholarly essays (2,000–5,000 words), short articles on research or pedagogical-related themes, thought and opinion pieces. We would also like to publish reviews and review essays of recent scholarly books. If you are interested in reviewing for the journal, please send a short statement of interest and academic biography (no more than 200 words) to the editor.
All typescript should be double-spaced, MLA referenced, sent on disk saved as a Word document and accompanied by two hard copies of the text.
The submissions deadline for Issue 3 is 29th February 2008
Submissions may also be considered during March, but only after prior arrangement with the editor. Please contact the editor with an abstract or proposal if you wish to submit but have concerns about being unable to make the deadline.
Contributions should be sent to:
