About the speaker:
Dr. Bender is a professor of history at NYU. He has most recently published A Nation among Nations: America's Place in World History (2006). He has also published numerous books and articles on urban America in addition to being a recipient of the Frederick Jackson Turner Prize of the Organization of American Historians, a Guggenheim Fellow, Rockefeller Humanities Fellow, Getty Scholar, Fellow of the Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers at the NYPL, Fellow for the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, and Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
