On February 21st and 22nd 2008 the Faculty of Graduate Studies and
Research and the Department of History and Classics Graduate Students Association will be hosting a conference on the theme of rethinking interpretations of past and present. This theme is to be broadly interpreted but is meant to coincide with the UofA Centennial Celebration and, thusly, we hope to encourage new conceptions of the past and present, but also the future.
This conference in open to all disciplines in the social sciences and encourages an inter-disciplinary approach to topics such as:
Nationalism, Identity, Globalization, Conflict, Post-conflict studies, Multiculturalism, Ethnicity, Imperialism, Racism, Technology, Modernity, Postmodernism, Colonialism, Post-colonialism, Religion, Class and Gender.
In addition to inviting graduate students and faculty from across the UofA, this conference will host approximately 300 grade 12 IB students from across Edmonton. However, the language and style of your papers should still reflect that of a graduate student conference that is accessible to non-experts in your field.
