Requesting papers for a SHOT panel for the 2008 SMH Conference. Panel title: Technology and the U.S. Military: Historical Responses to the Technology of War. Technology has both shaped and been shaped by the United States military. This panel is concerned with contextualizing the historical role of technology in the U.S. military, particularly as it relates to the ways in which the various branches responded to technological change. The panel's focus is intentionally broad so that a wide variety of topics may be addressed. A third paper is needed to fill out this panel. Interested historians (preference to members of the Society for the History of Technology) should email a one-paragraph abstract, professional affiliation and contact information ASAP to:
