Call for Reviews
Reviews of recent books on the history of Eastern, South-Eastern and Central Europe are being sought for publication on the website of the journal EAST CENTRAL EUROPE/L'EUROPE DU CENTRE-EST, Eine wissenschaftliche Zeitschrift (www.ece.ceu.hu). Although publications on these regions in Western languages are eligible, the goal is to provide a comprehensive and quality site that reviews important books published in the local languages and released in the past few years. The aim of the database is to map the contemporary historiography of the countries of Eastern, South-Eastern and Central Europe and will be searchable by a variety of categories such as language of publication, subfield of history, topic, period and region. Reviews are accepted in English, French and German, the languages of the journal.
The three types of reviews are the following:
Book notes - Short summaries of a few sentences stating the major points of a work
Book reviews - Short reviews of 400-1000 words that provide a description of the contents as well as a critique
Review essays - Longer reviews of more books on a given topic, conceived as several linked book reviews. (The review essays are to appear in the printed journal. They are commissioned by the editors, intellectual authorities are requested to write on topics that the thematic journal issues address.)
ECE is ready to acquire free review copies for its reviewers, either centrally, through Budapest in case of Western publications or through the local/national heads of the project in the case of publications from our region.
We are interested in your contributions, from books you would be willing to review to your ideas of what books should ideally be listed at the website. For questions concerning reviews, see our Guidelines at http://www.ece.ceu.hu/?q=node/12 or write to
