The October 2007 issue of the Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography is now available both in print and online. This issue is a special issue, which honors the 25th anniversary of the publication of Russell Weigley’s edited volume, Philadelphia: A 300-Year History.
The issue includes a retrospective review of the book and a look at the wealth of Philadelphia history books published since by Gary B. Nash – “Clio’s Cornucopia: The Last Quarter Century of Historical Scholarship on Philadelphia.”
It also contains a roundtable discussion by the surviving contributors to Weigley’s volume, edited by Charlene Mires, on the process of writing and producing the book.
And, it includes an essay by Roger D. Simon and Brian Alnutt that brings Philadelphia’s history up to the present time – “Philadelphia, 1982-2007: Toward the Postindustrial City.”
