David Philips is retiring from the University of Melbourne after more than 30 years in which he taught both British and South African histories. In this public lecture, he will take the opportunity to reflect on connections between the People’s and Freedom Charters, and on the importance of the struggles and issues with which they were associated in 19th Century Britain and 20th Century South Africa.
