My name is John Rosenberg and I am a graduate student at Kansas University. I am interested in putting together a panel for the SHAFR Conference this June in Columbus, Ohio. The panel's tentative title is "Revisiting the Fall of China." My paper deals with U.S. diplomat John Melby's role in shaping U.S. foreign policy toward China from 1946-1949 and in particular his role in creating the myth of a hegemonic Communist world taking its orders from Moscow. Other issues that this panel can address are the affect of domestic politics on foreign relations, and the ways in which U.S. diplomats gather evidence to support their stands.
If you are interested in joining this panel, or in serving as a chair or commentator, please write me at jrosenbe@ku.edu
