EUROPE ON THE WORLD STAGE
February 8 - 9, 2008
Georgetown University, Washington, DC
From Javier Solana negotiating over Iran's nuclear ambitions, to the European Union's entry in the WTO, to the development of the GALILEO satellite program, Europe is playing a leading role on the world stage. What is Europe's role, and how is it changing? What opportunities and challenges lie ahead? Is this the dawn of a new European era?
In order to reflect the numerous facets of Europe's changing role within the international community, this conference is multidisciplinary in nature. Paper topics are open to all relevant disciplines and approaches. Abstracts might consider, but are not limited to, historical, political, legal, economic, cultural, and social perspectives. Possible topics include:
• Europe's development as a force in international environmental policy.
• Evolving European identity amidst ever-increasing diversity.
• The evolution—or dissolution—of the transatlantic relationship.
• From socialism to supranationalism: choosing the EU model.
• Preserving relations with long-standing allies amidst increasing international autonomy.
At the close of the conference, two papers will be selected to receive 'Best Paper' awards on the basis of their academic quality, as judged by the panel commentators. Selected papers will receive a monetary award.
Abstracts Submission Deadline: November 1, 2007 via e-mail
