The School of History at the University of St Andrews is running a free introductory workshop on understanding heraldry to which all staff and postgraduates at universities in the United Kingdom are invited to attend. Those who think it might be a useful skill for their research projects would be especially welcome.
The afternoon programme contains two sessions explaining the history and basics of heraldry, conducted by one of the current Scottish heralds, Ross Herald of Arms. There will also be short presentations by researchers who have used heraldry in their work and a ‘hands on’ session in the university library archives. There are chances for discussion throughout the afternoon.
Date: Wednesday 7 November 2007
Time: 1pm – 5pm (refreshments provided and wine reception at close of workshop)
Venue: The University of St Andrews
To register or for further information, please contact Dr Katie Stevenson by email (katie.stevenson@st-andrews.ac.uk)
