The Protest Issues and Actions section of the Popular Culture Association(PCA) seeks proposals for its annual paper sessions at the 2008 PCA Conference in San Francisco, California, March 19-22, 2008. Any disciplinary perspective may be used to examine dissent, past or present, in a local, regional, national or international setting. Using a broad interpretation of dissent, papers may focus on works by specific writers or artists, the history of a specific protest, action or movement, as well as the rhetoric, politics, impact and sociology of specific protest movements. Past topics have included studies of consumer boycotts, protest slogans, the guerrilla girls, and protests by environmental, antiwar, African-American, Native American, Latin American, animal rights, women and gay rights groups, as well as examinations of how marches, symbols, poetry, dance, theater, music and art play a role in protest.
