Exploring the British Isles: Inventing Nations
This one-day interdisciplinary conference seeks to gather together researchers and teachers of Britain and Ireland, to consider conceptions of Britain and Britishness from the middle ages to the present.
Papers are invited from across disciplines (history, literature, politics, geography, art history), and sectors (Higher Education, Study Abroad, Further Education).
Topics could include:
Notions of national and regional identities
Constructing “Britishness”
Tensions involved in teaching Britain, not just England
Interdisciplinary versus multidisciplinary teaching
If you would like to contribute to the conference, please send a brief (50 word) outline for a paper of either approximately 20 or approximately 40 minutes to:
