Calling for abstracts on the topic of “Debate in the Neighbourhood.” Check www.idebate.org/exchange/ for details. Taking place at Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, Lithuania, this conference takes a broad look at the role of debate/discussion in fostering democratic values and building “neighbourhoods” or communities, on the local, national, and international (EU, globalization) level. We welcome papers concerning a wide variety of areas, such as education, political science, media studies, gender issues, minority/ethnic/race issues, and so on. Some neighbourhoods have displayed tensions (riots in France and Estonia), while others display serious social changes (migration of students/workers); this conference hopes to explore any such issues that involve the intersection between debate and “the neighbourhood.”
