ManuScript, the postgraduate ejournal and conference in the area of English and American Studies at the University of Manchester, invites papers from all branches and periods of literary and cultural studies for a one day conference on the braod theme of "Senses", taking place on December 7, 2007.
Papers are welcomed from a diversity of fields and trans-disciplinary viewpoints. Approaches might include, though are not limited to:
Sensory immanence/sense construction
Hierarchies of the senses
(stuff and) Nonsense
Gendered senses
Translations and adaptations (between senses)
Hermeneutics (making senses)
Synaethesia/coenaesthesia
Sensory deprivation
Anaesthetic
Hidden Senses or the extra-sensory
Ab-sences and Pre-sences
An online edition of our peer reviewed graduate ejournal will appear following from and responding to the conference proceedings.
Abstracts of no more than 250 words should be emailed to manuscript@manchester.ac.uk by 1st November. We also welcome samples of creative writing of no more than 250 words.
