I would like to have my submission updated with the text below. Please let me know if you need any other information from me. This has been an excellent vehicle for finding authors--thank you!
The Gale Group is currently seeking one or two Civil War scholars and enthusiasts to write essays for our upcoming title, Gale Library of Daily Life: American Civil War.
This two-volume set will focus on the daily life of Northern and
Southern civilians and soldiers during the Civil War. A key feature of the essays will be excerpts from first-person accounts to illustrate the lives of men, women, and children, including slaves and their families, during the epic conflict that shaped America. You will have access to Gale's extensive group of electronic databases in order to locate primary source documents and other materials from which you can find excerpts to use in the essays, but you should utilize non-Gale sources as well (both print and electronic). These documents can be memoirs, letters, diaries, newspaper accounts, excerpts from other published works, etc.
More than 200 essays will be included in American Civil War. While many topics have already been assigned there are still two essays from which to choose, which I have included below. The due date for these essays is November 19, 2007.
*Travel (500-1,000 words)
*Reading Groups (500-1,000 words)
If you are interested in contributing, please email me at the address below. We can discuss a contract and I can provide the style guide and other materials you will need to complete this assignment.
Also, if you are not interested in writing an essay yourself but know of a colleague or graduate student who might be interested, please do forward this announcement to them. This is often one of our best methods for finding new writers!
Best regards,
