Synopsis: Convening specialists on the history of citizenship, race, and post-emancipation societies, this two-day workshop will trace the concrete impacts the Revolution had on Atlantic societies from the United States to Venezuela, from Guatemala to West Africa. The larger aim of the workshop will be to think about the Haitian Revolution as both cause and component of ongoing transformations with the aim of “thinking” Haiti within the larger Atlantic world.
The workshop will take place in Montreal, at Université de Montreal, from September 27th to 29th, 2007.
