Multi-Session Proposal Project for the 2008 conference of the
FRENCH COLONIAL HISTORICAL SOCIETY
May 14-18, Quebec City, Canada

Theme: French and Amerindians in the Heart of North America

This multi-session project will address the broad topic of the relations between French and Amerindians in the trans-Appalachian West during the colonial period and the Revolutionary era. From the mid 17th century to the early 19th, that region witnessed a variety of intercultural relations and the aim of this project is to gather scholars from different countries studying that history. This multi-session will cover the following sub-regions of the trans-Appalachian West: 1) Lower Louisiana; 2) Upper Louisiana (Illinois Country); 3) Missouri River Valley 4) Ohio Country; 5) Great Lakes; 6) Red River and Saskatchewan River regions.

Paper proposals should be sent by email (gteas@yorku.ca) no later than on September 15, 2007, in order to allow the organizers to prepare the official multi-session proposal for the conference. Each proposal should include: 1) Title of the presentation and an abstract of about 300 words; 2) Brief curriculum vitae. Proposals from graduate students are welcome!

We are also looking for a few panel chairs.

Thème: Français et Amérindiens au coeur de l’Amérique du Nord

Ce projet de multi-sessions abordera le sujet des relations entre Français et Amérindiens au cœur de l’Amérique du Nord durant les périodes coloniale et révolutionnaire. Du milieu du XVIIe siècle au début du XIXe, cette vaste région géographique a été témoin de nombreux échanges interculturels et l’objectif de ces sessions est de rassembler des chercheurs de différents horizons s’intéressant à cette histoire. Les sessions seront réparties selon les sous-régions suivantes: 1) Basse-Louisiane; 2) Haute-Louisiane (Pays des Illinois); 3) Vallée du Missouri; 4) Vallée de l’Ohio; 5) Grands Lacs; 6) Rivières Rouge et Saskatchewan.

Les propositions de communications doivent être soumises par courriel (gteas@yorku.ca) au plus tard le 15 Septembre 2007 de manière à permettre aux organisateurs de préparer la proposition officielle de multi-sessions. Chaque proposition devrait inclure: 1) Titre de la présentation et résumé d’environ 300 mots; 2) Bref curriculum vitae. Les propositions des étudiants aux cycles supérieurs sont bienvenues!
