Sitting on a Lake Michigan beach in Porter County, Indiana, is an old wooden schooner with possible ties to one of the most important and turbulent times in recent American history-the Underground Railroad. Join members of the Briggs Maritime Project on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 6:00 PM., at the National Archives-Great Lakes Region, Chicago, for an evening presentation on the theory of how and why the Alpha Shipwreck was connected to the transportation of escaped slaves via Lake Michigan to Canada during the antebellum years.
This 6:00 PM program is at the National Archives-Great Lakes Region, Chicago. It is located one block west of Pulaski Road on 75th Street.
