Interdisciplinary Curriculum
Dr. Heidi Hayes Jacobs
October 26, 27, 28, 2007 and November 10, 2007
This exciting offering focuses on designing engaging, rigorous, and creative interdisciplinary curriculum. Dr. Heidi Hayes Jacobs will work with teachers and administrators of K-12 classrooms and college institutions on the practical strategies for planning and implementing course and unit design for specific settings represented by participants. Current work involving Curriculum Mapping and mapping software approaches to integration will be a central focus of the course. The course includes the workshop, online classroom experience, and a follow-up seminar for credit students. Participants will consider the range of viewpoints that can help frame interdisciplinary efforts, with special attention given to assessing student performance, integrating cross-disciplinary literacy, and employing essential questions. To provide context, the rationale and roots of interdisciplinary education will be discussed. Institutional conditions that support or hinder interdisciplinary efforts and curriculum mapping in planning will be examined such as schedules, student grouping, and personnel configurations. Credit students will design an interdisciplinary curriculum framework for application in a setting of their choice.
