Registration for the conference ‘When the Soldiers Return’ is now open. The conference is to be held at the University of Queensland, St Lucia Campus, 28-30 November 2007.
This conference will bring together scholars investigating the legacy of war, its effects on the broader society and culture, and the central role returned soldiers play in these processes.
The conference program contains papers from scholars working in a wide variety of fields and eras, from historians of the ancient world to present-day mental health practitioners, from World War One to the current War in Iraq. Confirmed speakers, and their subjects, also cover the four corners of the globe. The conference presents a rare opportunity to talk across as well as within disciplinary boundaries and different geographies.
Keynote speakers for the conference are Professor Bruce Scates (Monash University) and Professor Annette Becker (Université Charles de Gaulle,Lille III, and Centre de recherche de l'historial de la Grand Guerre, Peronne, Somme).
A pre-conference workshop will also be conducted by Professor Scates and Professor Becker on Tuesday 27 August. The workshop is targeted at postgraduates and early career researchers and is titled “War Memories.” The workshop is available to those who have registered for the conference and to other UQ staff and postgraduates
