"The Legacy of 1968: An Interdisciplinary Conference" will be held at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia on April 4-5,2008. Keynote speakers will be Carole Fink (Ohio State University) and Sheldon Hackney (University of Pennsylvania.)The conference is sponsored by the History and Political Science Department; proposals for papers/panels are invited on any related issue related to 1968. 1968 was a critical year in history; in the U.S., the Tet offensive, the My Lai massacre, the assassinations of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr., the Chicago Democratic Coonvention and the subsequent election of Richard Nixon, and student protests were among the defining events of that year. In addition, the Prague Spring and the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia, student riots in Paris and elsewhere were among the worldwide expressions for change. Culturally, 1968 witnessed the publication of significant works in poetry, fiction, non-fiction, music and art. Deadline for proposals is December 1, 2007.
