The 4th edition of the exhibition of female African fashion has been inaugurated at Zürcher Stalder AG located in Switzerland near Bern under the title "Festival de la mode africaine". It shows about 30 dresses and costumes tailored in different West African countries in the period from the 1970's to 2002. The interest of this exhibition is to show an important aspect of female culture and art that often goes unnoticed. African women have developed a kind of fashion that borrowed from global or international styles and materials but which must definitely be called local or ethnic.
The first version of the exhibition was shown in 2005 at the ethnographic museum of Hamburg in Germany. It was accompanied by a catalogue which contains articles of different international art historians specialized in the field of African fashion and textiles.
