Call for Book Chapters: Science Fiction/Fantasy Television and History
Editors: David C. Wright, Jr. and Allan W. Austin, Associate Professors, Department of History, College Misericordia
Due Dates: Abstract of up to 500 words by 9/15/2007, completed papers by 12/1/2007
Book description:
To be published by McFarland Press in late 2008, this book will address contemporary interest in historical contexts of popular culture as well as the historical narratives presented in popular media, in particular science fiction and fantasy television series and programs. The editors are especially interested in chapters that focus on a series as a whole. If a particular show is analyzed, care must be taken to not devote too much space to retelling the plot.
Programs that might be analyzed include:
- Star Trek (Original, and/or later series)
- Farscape
- Babylon Five
- The Twilight Zone
- The Prisoner
- The Avengers
- Outer Limits
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer
- Lost in Space
- Stargate SG-I
- Battlestar Galactica
Articles should be academic, but intended for both an academic and general readership.
For full consideration, please send by September 15 an abstract (or essay draft), plus a curriculum vita or brief biographical statement, to David Wright at dwright@misericordia.edu. The editors will contact all contributors by October 1.
Essays chosen for final consideration should be submitted by December 1 on Microsoft Word, either as an e-mail attachment or by mail on a disk. Final drafts should be 5,000 to 7,500 words in length, including notes and references.
