This is a call for papers, panels, and roundtables for the Western Jewish Studies Association annual conference, held on April 6-7 2008 at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. We are especially interested in the topic of Jewish/Christian relations. We are also interested in the following topics this year: 60th anniversary of the State of Israel, Jews in TV, film and other areas of popular culture and mass media, panels on a particular book published in 2007, such as Michael Chabon's The Yiddish Policeman's Union. All topics related to the field of Jewish Studies will be considered.
Graduate student proposals will be considered and several travel stipends are available for graduate students whose proposals are accepted.
Submit paper proposals that are no longer than 1 double-spaced page along with a short CV of one page, which includes e-mail and regular mailing addresses. A one page overview of panels should be sent by the panel organizer and include the paper titles, academic affiliation, and contact information for presenters and panel chairperson. Each presenter of the panel must submit his or her paper proposal separately, but indicate that it is part of a panel proposal.
