THEME
AFRICA AND THE FOOD QUESTION IN THE 21ST CENTURY
There is a serious food problem in Africa. While the developed world is basking in food surpluses Africa continues to face famine. Famine, food insecurity, malnutrition and nutrition related diseases dominate the food discourse in Africa. The problem of food is embedded in complex causes. Despite years of community, government and international concern about the African food situation the story seems to remain the same. Yet some Africans can boast of food sovereignty and self-reliance in the midst of complex food problems. Hence, the conference titled Africa and the Food Question in the 21st Century is to discuss food issues in Africa in all its ramifications and from all possible perspectives.

Conference Structure
Keynote addresses, oral presentations, plenary sessions, in depth workshops, poster sessions and exhibitions. Please indicate your interest.

Abstracts
Papers are invited from interested persons from the academia, industry, international organizations, government and NGOs. Members of NAWCS are encouraged to send in their abstracts. Exhibitors should send a summary profile of their exhibition. Abstracts and summaries of not more than 300 words should be sent electronically to nawacs.conference@yahoo.com

Deadline for Abstracts: 30th November, 2007
Deadline for full papers
and exhibition concepts: 31st April, 2008
Conference Fee: N6, 000

All accepted papers will be published in a book of readings to be available at the beginning of the conference. It is therefore important to keep to the deadlines.

Accommodation will be available at affordable prices at the University of Lagos Guest Houses or hotels and guest houses in the neighbourhood of the university.
