The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History has launched “The Age of Exploration,” the latest issue of its quarterly online journal, History Now [www.historynow.org]. Each issue of History Now addresses a major theme in American history with an interactive feature, articles by noted historians, lesson plans for teachers, links to related websites, and bibliographies. The issue’s Interactive History section, “Maps from the Age of Exploration,” features five maps from the John Carter Brown Library at Brown University. Article topics include: The Columbian Exhange, the voyages of Ferdinand Magellan, the rise and fall of the New Netherland colony, the founding of Jamestown, and early interactions among settlers and Native Americans.
