CFP: Media and the End of the World Anthology
Co-editors Kylo-Patrick Hart and Annette Holba are seeking several additional essays to round out an insightful anthology pertaining to the topic of media and the end of the world. More specifically, we are looking for intriguing, theoretically and/or historically informed contributions that explore noteworthy coverage patterns, representations, and themes pertaining to apocalyptic references or images of the end of the world in a variety of media forms.
Submissions that examine apocalyptic images or artifacts, historical explorations of apocalyptic themes, apocalyptic themes embedded in the media offerings of various cultures, or other scholarly forms of exploration concerning end time apocalyptic messages are particularly desired. We are open to a variety of approaches and methods of inquiry; topics are not limited to any particular time period. Disciplines relevant to this project include anthropology, communication, cultural studies, film studies, history, LGBT studies, literature, media studies, popular culture, sociology, television studies, and women’s studies.
Completed essay submissions should be typed (doubled spaced) using 12-point Times Roman font and one-inch margins on all sides. As a general rule, essays following these format guidelines should fall between 15 to 25 pages, although shorter or longer submissions will certainly be considered. Any standard style of academic citation (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.) is acceptable for now, with the understanding that authors will eventually have to conform their manuscripts to the citation style preferred by the anthology’s publisher. To enable blind peer review, please include your name, complete contact information (institutional affiliation, mail and e-mail addresses, daytime telephone number), and essay title on a detachable cover sheet; with the exception of your essay title, please do not repeat this information on your first page of text.
The submission deadline is a bit tight, as this project is moving forward quickly. In order to be considered, completed essays must be received no later than September 15, 2007. Please mail or e-mail one copy of your completed essay to:
