Call for Papers: LGBT/Gender Studies (submission deadline: June 15, 2007)
The LGBT/Gender Studies Area Chair of the Northeast Popular/American Culture Association (NEPCA) seeks individual-paper proposals for presentation at NEPCA’s annual meeting, which will be held at Clark University (Worcester, Massachusetts) October 26-27, 2007.
Submissions pertaining to any aspect of LGBT studies and/or gender studies are desired from scholars, educators, and students at all levels. Of particular interest are contributions that explore the representation and/or social construction of gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgenders in various media offerings (e.g., intriguing films, television programs, Internet sites, comic books, etc.) as well as reception studies pertaining to such media offerings. Additional topics of interest include, but are certainly not limited to, advertising images and appeals, coming-of-age narratives, HIV/AIDS, romantic and sexual relationships, and queer theory in its various applications. Individual presentations will be limited to approximately 20 minutes in length.
Interested individuals are asked to submit a one-page abstract (including presentation title) and a brief CV (containing complete contact information) by June 15, 2007. Decisions pertaining to the status of such proposals will be communicated within two weeks of receipt.
