Call for papers: "Voci dal Mediterraneo - Riflessi d’Oriente" (Voices from the Mediterranean – Oriental Echoes).
Contributes sought for a collection.
Teatro Laboratorio Alkestis Centro di Ricerca e Sperimentazione, from now on Teatro Laboratorio Alkestis CRS, will realize, during 2007, a series of cultural initiatives that, offering to the public new possibilities of confrontation with not well-known themes, altered by the deforming mirror of mass medias, may contribute to intercultural dialogue e to the diffusion of the “culture of peace” promoted by UNESCO, besides proposing the image of Sardinia as a privileged centre of cultural mediation, image sustained by the forthcoming creation of a Museum for Mediterranean in the city of Cagliari.
A collection of papers on these topics will be realized.
The manifestation Voices from the Mediterranean – Oriental Echoes will be structured in 5 thematic initiatives of high scientific value, with conferences held by important experts in their own field, concerts, movie projections and photographical exhibitions.
The titles are:
Anam: Tiziano Terzani and Orient.
Silence conflicts (Africa).
Divine rapture (Sufism).
Mediterranean stars: Maria Carta and Umm Kulthum.
Someone Who Is not Like Anyone (Iran).
It will be possible, from May 25th 2007, downloading the whole manifestation program on the web site (Home Page > Voci dal Mediterraneo. Riflessi d’Oriente > Consulta il programma della manifestazione).
Teatro Laboratorio Alkestis CRS, promoting excellence in research, proposes 5 Call for Papers for scientific articles that will be published within a collection, after the conclusion of the manifestation. The titles are:
Tiziano Terzani, or “on peace and war” in the heart of man.
Ancient chains for new slaveries: silence conflicts in contemporary Africa.
“Many ways bring to God. I chose that of dance and music…” (Mevlana) – The sublime way of dance and music in the divine world of Sufism.
“We loved you for your voice”: Maria Carta and Umm Kulthum as Mediterranean and international artists.
Women writers and poets in contemporary Iran.
ELEGIBILITY
The articles may be submitted by those who, without age limitation, have developed in the years researches, studies or simple interest towards the topics of the Call for Papers.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS
Every article have to be declared, in a detached sheet (or file), dated und signed, as the author’s own intellectual property.
The contributions, in English or Italian language, have to be submitted to the Secretariat of Teatro Laboratorio Alkestis CRS in .doc format (Ms Word), possibly zipped, to the e-mail address callforpapers@teatroalkestis.it or by snail mail, in three copies, with floppy disk or CD-ROM containing the files, to the address:

Contributions must respect the following criteria:
The length of papers is limited to 10 pages (A4, Times New Roman or Arial, 12 dpi, line spacing 1,5).
The papers must be written in English or Italian.
All submissions should be in Microsoft Word.doc.

Teatro Laboratorio Alkestis CRS Secretariat will inform the Author of the proposal reception for contributions sent by e-mail.
The sheets with the contribution must be anonymous without recognition signs, signatures or any indication to the Author’s name or surname. Authors have to send, in a detached sheet (or file, in case of electronic submission), their personal and contact details, a short biographical and professional profile and the title of paper, besides a declaration of paternity of the work and an authorization to the treatment of personal data, according with the Italian law D. Lgs. 196/2003), dated and signed.
Files and letters containing personal information will be fostered by Teatro Alkestis Secretariat, and not visible to anyone until the end of selection.
Selected papers will be prized during the conferences connected to that particular theme, and then published in a collection.
SELECTION PROCESS
Every proposed contribute will be evaluated by a “blind review” commission, composed by experts of history, literature and performing arts, who, in order to guarantee impartiality, will remain anonymous. The commission will select the papers and will transmit them to Teatro Alkestis Secretariat, that will identify the authors with their personal data.
Commission will not be able to identify the name and surname of the papers.
Preferential criteria will be: adherence to the chosen theme, the use of very good English or Italian, a very personal style, scientific accuracy and a qualified bibliography.
