The National Endowment for the Humanities and Virginia State University's Institute for the Study of Race Relations are sponsoring a four-part program that explores Petersburg's local African American history as a window into a larger understanding of the development of the Atlantic world. On May 26 we will begin the program, "Freedom, Economics, and Religion: Race and the African American Experience in the Context of the Atlantic World: The Case of Petersburg, Virginia," with a lecture by Duke University's Peter H. Wood from 2 to 4 PM at Petersburg Union Station, 103 River Street, Petersburg, VA. A PDF brochure describes the project in its entirety, including additional lectures and workshops: http://www.christinaproenza.org/PetersburgProjectBrochure.html
