This conference focuses on the themes of community, friendship and conviviality in the writing of the early Stuart period (c.1600-1650). It has a special emphasis on Herrick as it comes halfway through the editing process for his new Complete Poetry (Oxford UP, forthcoming) but, in keeping with the theme, the conference encourages a wide range of perspectives on communal identities from a variety of literary and non-literary sources. The full CFP is on the project website shown above.
The coference is scheduled to take place at Buckfast Abbey in Devon, near Herrick's vicarage of Dean Prior between July 18th and July 20th 2008.
