Encyclopedia Virginia (EV), an online multi-year project of the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, is seeking contributing scholars for a variety of sections. The mission of Encyclopedia Virginia is to chronicle the state’s history, politics, and geography; describe the state’s heritage in arts, religion, culture, and folklife; provide information on science, medicine, education, business, and technology; and interpret the state's significance to Virginia, the nation, and the world. The purpose of EV is to become the first point of reference for all users interested in Virginia and to provide authoritative and accessible information for students, teachers, scholars, and business, industry, and government when they have a question about Virginia's history and culture.
EV is set to debut in 2008, with new sections released every six months, and will include articles on individuals and organizations, events, works and products, and major concepts related to Virginia and its history. The first iteration of EV will be comprised of entries on Literature, 20th Century History, Business & Industry, Cities & Counties, and Geography. Section Editors have generated topic lists with the entries varying in length from 500-3,000 words depending upon their significance.
EV is looking for contributors for these and future sections, with all writers receiving authorial credit and an honorarium. If you would like to contribute to this project, please contact Karen Wikander: email@example.com. She will provide more information about the project, including deadlines, guidelines, entry expectations, and a topic list for the section in which you are interested.
Please pass this notice on to other scholars (professors, graduate students, or known specialists in the field).
Thank you for your time and interest.
