CALL FOR PAPERS (deadline 6/15/07)
MEDIEVAL AND GOTHIC NEW ENGLAND
co-organized by Michael Torregrossa and Amy West
for sessions we are proposing in the Medievalism Area
for the 2007 Meeting of the Northeast Popular/American Culture Association
Clark University, Worcester, MA
26-27 October 2007
We are interested in papers exploring any aspect of the medieval or the Gothic in the New England states (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont) for sessions we are proposing in the Medievalism Area chaired by Faye Ringel (fayeringel-at-hotmail.com). We are especially interested in how New Englanders have shaped our conception of the medieval world. Proposals of 300 to 500 words due by 15 June 2007.
Possible topics:
Academic Culture (The Medieval Academy; Plymouth State Medieval Forum; and biographies of New England medievalists and their effect on Medieval Studies)
Archives, Museums, and Libraries (Higgins Armory Museum)
Arts and Architecture (Edwin Austin Abbey’s Grail Murals)
Entertainments (The Medieval Manor; King Richard’s Faire; The Cumberland Company's "The Faire")
Literary Culture (A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court)
Mysteries (the Westford Knight; the Newport Tower)
