Silk is one of the most ancient fibers used by humankind; its discovery as a weavable fiber is credited to the Lady Xi Ling Shi in China in 2640 BC. Silk had a far-ranging impact, both economically and socially, in ancient times; but did you know that there was thriving silk industry in colonial Connecticut? Historian Ann Galonska will ‘unravel’ the history of silk in Connecticut. Also, we will look at the life history of the silkworm and reel silk fibers from real silkworm cocoons as they did in ancient China 4600 years ago! Adults and children 6 and above. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
