JOURNAL OF CONTEMPORARY EDUCATIONAL ISSUES
NOTES TO CONTRIBUTORS
The need to document our past and research into the future necessitated the birth of this journal. It will indeed act as a forum for experts in all fields of human endeavour to disseminate research findings on new issues that will benefit mankind. The journal aims to have a generalist focus and publish works pertinent to Contemporary Issues in education.
Call for submissions
We are currently accepting submissions for the 4th issue of the journal on Arresting Educational Inequalities. Deadline for paper submission is June 30th 2007
This volume welcomes contributions on educational differences in achievement, home environment and schools performance, the curriculum and the problem of under-achievement, the inclusive curriculum, and the remedial (psychological) and child friendly classroom, the myth and reality of inequality, is inequality normal and do on. The Editorial Board emphasizes papers that offer solutions to the problems of inequality from Educational foundations to management, curriculum studies, exercise and movement studies.
We are currently accepting submissions for the 5th issue of the Journal on The Future of Curriculum Theorizing vol.3 (3) Deadline for paper submission is October 30th 2007
The question of what will be the nature, focus and impact of curriculum theorizing appears often taken for granted: Curriculum will be planned according to the social needs as we are told but at what point do this happens. We are seldom/or hardly told. What will the society of the future look like and what shall we offer as the curriculum.
This edition is on the yet-undeciphered but gradually emerging problems likely to confront the bodies of knowledge currently taught in schools and colleges. For example: will physics remain as physics, or social studies as social studies or will curriculum theorists themselves remain in business. The Editorial Board will specially welcome papers that identify potential threats to the contents and the spheres of knowledge currently taught and which offer practical solutions to them, from curriculum politicking to strategies, pedagogy, Universal basic Education interventionism.
.Democracy, Accountability and Educational management .Vol 4(1).Deadline for paper submission is January 2008
The 1990s were the years of demilitarization and democratization in the developing countries. Schools (primary, secondary and tertiary) have supposedly being influenced. Educators are prone to query the nature, focus and substance and directions of these changes in the management of schools. In Nigeria for example, it could be asked if democracy has impacted positively on the management of public schools, or how justifiable was the attempted privatization of Federal/Unity schools by the central administration or in Lagos state ask if the high-faulting pronouncements of the fire-branding activist government transformed into smooth efficient, non-dictatorial management of schools and boards. Does paper democracy translate into comfortable and professionally acceptable classrooms? The Editors will welcome critically yet empirical submissions. Are school managers psychologically repressed in the emergent democracies in Africa?
4. Health, Sports and Gender in Education Vol 4(2) Deadline for paper submission is June 30th 2008
This edition will include papers on poverty, religion, belief systems, voodoo, tokenism and so on, sports participation, reporting and research; why are female sports discriminated against or why are female sportsmen paid less than their female counterparts in professional sports; the girl-child, rights to education, gender inequalities and affirmative action; gender sensitization ,socialization and the re-training of teachers, and the emergent constraints to effective health and sports practices (and teaching) in schools. The submissions could either be phenomenological or empirical while the editors will pace high premium on those offering solutions to problems and constraints.
Submission of Manuscripts
Please make sure your contact address information is clearly visible on the outside of all packages you are sending to Editors. Papers accepted become the copyright of the Journal, unless otherwise specifically agreed. Contributors should bear in mind that they are addressing an international audience. Manuscripts that do not conform to the requirements listed below will not be considered for publication or returned to their authors. Manuscripts of not more than 10 pages (tables, figures, references etc. included) in Times New Roman letter size and printed on A4 size white paper in laser quality should be sent to Tola Olujuwon, Central Educational Service, 374,Bornu Way, Alagomeji, Sabo,Yaba, Lagos, Nigeria. Email cenduserve@yahoo.com Preference will be given to manuscripts submitted electronically. Articles should be typed on one side of the paper, double spaced, with ample margins, and bear the title of the contribution, name(s) of the author(s) and the address where the work was carried out. Each article should be accompanied by an abstract of 100-150 words on a separate sheet, and a short note of biographical details including institutional affiliations (if any) The full postal address, telephone, fax and email address.
Authors will be required to pay a publication charge of US$50.00to defray the high cost of publication.
Footnotes to the text should be avoided All tables and figures should be properly captioned and well displayed. Preference should be given to figures in illustrating results involving a large set of data. The approximate position of tables and figures should be indicated in the manuscript. Captions should include keys to symbols. Titles of Journal and names of publishers should not be abbreviated. Acronyms for the names of organizations, Institutions, etc. should be preceded by the title in full. All pages should be numbered. References should be indicated in the typescript by giving the author's name, with the year of publication in parentheses. If several papers by the same author and from the same year are cited, a, b, c, etc. should be put after the year of publication. The references should be listed in full at the end of the paper in the following standard form: For books: SHANTZ, C.U & HARTUP, W.W (1995) Conflict in Child and Adolescent Development, [Cambridge, Cambridge University Press).
For articles: Khan,Imran. (2003) Making an Impact, Index on Censorship, 4, pp. 62-66.
For chapters within books: BABAWALE, T (2003) The Youth, Democracy and National Development in Nigeria: Limitations and Possibilities, in: AOK. Noah & A. Ayodele (Eds.) Youth Management in Nigeria (pp.1-10) Lagos, Central Educational Service Proofs will be sent to authors if there is sufficient time to do so. They should be corrected and returned to the Editor within five days. Major alterations to the text cannot be accepted. A copy of the journal will be sent by post to all corresponding authors after publication.
Copyright: It is a condition of publication that authors vest copyright in their articles, including abstracts, in Central Educational Service. This ensures that both the publishers and the authors are protected from misuse of copyright materials. Authors may, of course, use the article elsewhere after publication without prior permission from Central Educational Service, provided that acknowledgement is given to the Journal as the original source of publication. Authors are themselves responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyright material from other sources.
Complimentary Copy of JOCIE
All contributors will receive a complimentary copy of JOCIE witch their articles has been published. In case of joint or multiple authors copies will be sent to the principal author.
