The area chair for Westerns at the Midwest Popular Culture Association, meeting this year in Kansas City, is looking for papers. Subject texts can range across all media: films, TV, graphic novels, video games, etc. Papers that address manifestations of the typical genre characteristics in other forms, such as science fiction or horror, or also welcomed, as are works that interrogate fundamental aspects of the mythology of the frontier, by looking at media in the genre that challenge the more traditional assumptions of the frontier and the Old West.
