The 'Jornadas Peruanas for the History of Science, Technology and Health: Social Medicine in Historical Perspective' will take place in Lima at the Colegio Médico del Peru (Malecón Armendáriz 791 - Miraflores, Lima) between September 3rd and 6th 2007.
The meting aims at bringing together students, scholars, and policy makers from Peru and other countries in the fields of science, technology and health and discuss the role of science, technology and medicine in society from a historical perspective. This Congress will help us to understand the scientific, technological and sanitary traditions of Peru as well as to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the foundation of the Institute of Social Medicine of the San Marcos University. It is a multidisciplinary event that will include the following thematic areas: history of science, history of technology, history of climate, and history of health.
The event is sponsored by the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, Centro Cultural de España, IFEA-Instituto Frances de Estudios Andinos, Colegio Médico del Peru, and the Peruvian Network for the History of Science, Technology and Health.
Amongst the researchers that have confirmed their participation are: Oswaldo Salaverry, Carmen Salazar-Soler and Marcos Cueto from Peru, Michael Knipper from Germany, Rafael Huertas from Spain, Jaime Benchimol and Nisia Trinidade Lima from Brazil, and Ana Maria Carrillo from Mexico.
Those interested in participating must submit a summary of their paper of a maximum of 500 words before the 20th of May 2007, including the name of the speaker, home institution, academic degree, and email, to the Executive Secretary of the Congress: Dr Jorge Lossio firstname.lastname@example.org
The official languages of the meeting are: English, French, Portuguese and Spanish. The acceptance or rejection of papers will be notified by the Secretariat of the Congress by e-mail by June 1st 2007. Acceptance will be based on quality, originality and relevance.
The registration fee is 60 Peruvian Nuevos Soles for students and 120 Peruvian Nuevos Soles for professionals (1 American dollar= 3.15 Peruvian soles). It includes attendance to the sessions, certificates, and attendance to the social events of the Congress. Unfortunately the organizers cannot fund air tickets or accommodation. However, for those coming from abroad the organizers will provide information and contacts for accommodation and traveling locally.
