Professor Michels is the George L. Associate Professor of American Jewish History at UW. He teaches courses in working class history, immigration, and modern Jewish history. His book, A Fire in Their Hearts: Yiddish Socialists in New York (Harvard, 2005) won the Salo Baron Prize from the American Academy for Jewish Research. He is currently working on
