2007 Summer Institute: World Cultures Through Literature and Film
Welcome to the 6th Annual International Summer Institute!
June 25-29, 2007
The International Summer Institute is organized jointly by the area studies centers and other international studies programs at the University of Illinois. This intensive institute will address the contemporary issues and concerns, including rural and urban change, immigration, globalization and geographies of social, economic, and political life. This year the seminar will explore these issues using film and literature as medium to gain greater understanding of the issues and to engage audience members in a dialogue amongst a wide variety of topics.
While all K-14 teachers are welcome, the curriculum materials are geared mainly towards middle school, high school and college educators. The workshop is aimed at social studies/social science teachers, particularly those teaching human geography, sociology, and world cultures but also educators in English, foreign languages, fine arts and certain other programs would find this material extremely useful. Participating teachers will receive: 30 CPDUs (for 30 contact hours) are available to Illinois teachers; 3.0 U of Illinois CEUs (30 contact hours) for non-IL teachers.
