CAA 2008 Session on Stéphane Mallarmé and 20th-Centiury Art, Criticism, and Theory
|
|
This CAA panel examines the influence of poet and theorist Stéphane Mallarmé on twentieth-century art, theory and criticism. Especially welcome are interdisciplinary investigations of how the poet’s writings have reoriented debates concerning the limits of modernism (Greenberg, Crimp, Barthes, Rancière, for example). The panel also seeks papers addressing the relevance of Mallarmé’s ideas on contemporary art practice—including media “between categories” such as performance, film, or the artist’s book.
