Professor Michels published A Fire in the Hearts: Yiddish Socialists in New York (Harvard, 2005), which won the Salo Baron Prize for the best book in Jewish Studies (awarded by the American Academy for Jewish Research. He is currently at work on a new book on Jewish Communists in the U.S.
