The News on the Rialto is an annual print and web publication, published every summer, that provides an informational point of reference for scholars working on all aspects of Venetian studies, including the political, economic, social, religious, artistic, architectural, musical and literary history of the city, its overseas empire, and its mainland territories. Begun in 1978 as a small newsletter, the News on the Rialto has in the intervening years established itself as a significant tool of communication between scholars and academics in the expanding field of Venetian studies.
The News also provides conference and book announcements, the schedules of the city's more than twenty libraries and archives, as well as information about upcoming conferences, housing and other matters of general interest related to scholars working on Venice. Recent new features include book reviews and retrospective reviews of important works in Venetian Studies; abstracts of new dissertations in the field; articles on Venetian and Veneto archives, libraries, electronic sources; and essays on living and working as a scholar in the region.
Annual subscriptions are $10 US (or equivalent in local currency), and can be submitted online at via regular mail or online at www.newsontherialto.com.
