ROMANTIC INFIDELS, Saturday 19 May 2007, Roehampton University, London
In the Romantic Period, many of the challenges to orthodox Christianity which had been obliquely hinted at over the preceding century emerged into the open. Topics may include:Paine’s Age of Reason and its fallout, Shelley’s atheism, Comparative mythography, Romantic science, The influence of Lucretius, Rational Dissent, Blake and religion, Popular mysticism, Blasphemy, Infidel strands in canonical poetry, Religion and gender. Speakers to include:
Jon Mee, Barbara Taylor, Martin Priestman, David Worrall. Short proposals for 20-minute papers to reach i.haywood@roehampton.ac.uk by 30 March.
