The Ateneo Center for Asian Studies invites scholars, academicians, and Ph.D. students to submit paper proposals on the theme "Religion, Regionalism and Globalization in Asia." The registration fee will be waived for paper presenters. Early bird fee, payable until 7 January 2008 is 800 pesos. Regular fee of 1,000 pesos applies from 1 January 2008. Selected papers will be published.
Relgion is a pervasive presence in Asia. Asia is the birthplace of religions and a site of religious tensions. Asia is also today the stage where efforts towards regional integration are happening. Asia is experiencing the impact of globalization. Is the multipliciity of religions a hindrance to regional integration? Have the secularizing features of globalization diminished the role of religion in the economy, politics and societies of Asia? What are the postitive and negative impacts of religion on development? Are religions in Asia objects or agents of globalization?
