This open lecture will explore the Pre-Islamic emergence of Zoroastrianism in Kurdistan. Dr Almut Hintze, School of Oriental and African Studies’s Zortoshty Lecturer in Zoroastrianism, will discuss her research and consider the role of Zoroastrian belief in Kurdistan, in historical and contemporary perspective. The lecture will touch on its relationship to Kurdish and Yezidi identity, and its continued relevance in the Islamic Middle East.
