CFP - Disseminating Ruskin
Ruskin Centre, Lancaster University
6-7 July, 2007
Deadline for proposals: Friday, 27th April, 2007
The conference organisers welcome proposals for 20 minute papers on any aspect of the cultural dissemination of Ruskin’s work and thought, especially on topics relating to the publication and readership of his works, the social experiments undertaken in his name, and the collections formed to further his teaching.
Part of the AHRC-funded project, ‘Ruskin, Cultural Tourism, and Popular Access’, the colloquium will engage with the ways John Ruskin’s thought and work have been, and continue to be, disseminated through such cultural and economic means as museums, books, social experimentation, and business or manufacturing practices. In particular the colloquium will discuss Ruskin’s books and their place within nineteenth century publishing history, Ruskin’s readers, and the museums and collections set up in his name or guided by his teaching.
Proposals of 250 to 350 words should be submitted to the project’s Research Associate: Dr. Rachel Dickinson, Ruskin Centre, Bowland College, Lancaster University, Lancaster, LA1 4YT, UK; 01524 593317; r.dickinson@lancaster.ac.uk
