I would like to put together a panel for the 2007 History of Science Society Meeting entitled "Artisans and Philosophers in Early Modern Europe." My own dissertation on the seventeenth-century alchemist and projector Cornelis Drebbel examines the relationship between artisanal knowledge and academic natural philosophy in the seventeenth century. I would be particularly interested in papers examining changing boundaries of art and nature, experimentation in academic settings, and the reception and translation of vernacular natural philosophies.
If you are interested in joining such a panel (or serving as chair or commentator), please email me at vkeller@princeton.edu with a brief description of your paper by March 15, 2007.
HSS' annual meeting will be held outside of Washington D.C. 1-4 November 2007. The deadline for the CFP is April 2, 2007.
Thank you,
Vera Keller
